Is the video for Radiohead's new single Burn the Witch inspired by kids TV classic Trumpton?

Thom Yorke and co debuted the video online and social media on Monday afternoon

Radiohead have released a sinister video for new single Burn The Witch.

After teasing on social media that the group would finally be giving their fans new material, the stop-motion video in the style of 1960's children's show Trumpton was finally posted to YouTube on Tuesday afternoon.

While it might be inspired by the classic children's show, there's nothing kid-friendly about the Chris Hopewell directed video where villagers burn a smiling witch, a gallows covered in flowers and some sinister village folk.

By the end, it's a Wicker Man rip off as the band of villagers stand around a burning wooden efigy.

The video release comes after some strange behaviour from Thom York and co.

Over the weekend the group completely wiped their website and social media pages, causing fans to speculate that a new album, the group's ninth, could be fast approaching.

Over the website the ban's website began to disappear gradually until it was just a white page, according to eagle eyed Reddit users.

According to Picthfork , the move comes a day after fans received cryptic emails with the words: "Sing a song of sixpence that goes/Burn the Witch/We know where you live."

Fans are now beginning to speculate over how the band, who have a history of releasing their material in unusual ways, will release their ninth album.

"All indications point to the imminent release of Radiohead's ninth album," one said.

"Radiohead is trolling the internet without posting anything on the internet. Pretty brilliant," another shared.
