Great Progress — Almost There!

Notebook LM has come a long way on the iPhone since its initial release. The app is smoother, more responsive, and overall much improved. However, there are still a few rough edges to smooth out. For example, audio doesn’t play correctly through my Bluetooth earbuds—though I have noticed better volume levels when using the iPhone’s built-in speaker.

One major difference compared to the web version is the lack of the Discover feature. On the web, you can research a topic and instantly get ten curated sources, or even explore random topics—features that make Notebook LM truly unique and powerful. Unfortunately, none of that is currently available on the iPhone.

That said, I’m optimistic. Once Google brings feature parity between the iOS app and the web version, this will be a five-star app. I look forward to future updates!

It is Awesome

This app is truly awesome. When I first heard about it, I set the notification when it is first available. Today, I finally got to try it out and I’ve experimented with a few documents to see if the podcast voice overview works. And yes, It works incredibly well. The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that the interactive feature, which is still in its beta phase, doesn’t seem to be working properly. When I click on it, it just appears on the screen and does not do anything. Other than that, I’m impressed with the concept and its potential, especially as a student. I’m hopeful that the developer team will work on fixing this issue. I’m eagerly looking forward to future updates.

So much potential… just a bit buggy.

NotebookLM is a very clever tool for consolidating sources and learning. I especially like how it turns information into something easy and enjoyable to listen to—it feels like having a personalized podcast made just for you.

That said, the mobile experience is frustrating. The iPhone app doesn’t function anywhere near as smoothly as the desktop version. While using it, my phone glitches and, strangely, it even triggers Apple Music to randomly start playing in the background. On top of that, the app doesn’t create separate audio files or podcasts that I can download, and it doesn’t automatically pull in new audio episodes. This means I’m forced to use my laptop if I want to get any real productivity out of it.

Overall, I can see the potential here and appreciate the concept, but the app itself feels unfinished. Until the mobile version is stable and more functional, I’ll stick to using NotebookLM on my desktop.
