I will put this here since many people seem to be confused about the difference between contributions and commits. To quote @anuraghazra in #1390 (comment):

Github shows "contribution" and we show "commits" contribution !== commits

Github contributions do not only include the commits you made but also:

• Issues you created
• Pull requests you opened
• And discussions you started

As a result, the number of contributions will always be higher than the number of commits you made. For more information on the difference between contributions and commits, see the Github documentation.
