First trailer for Heartstopper Season 3 teases darker themes and new characters as fans feel 'ten emotions at once'

Fans are particularly excited about seeing the famous shower scene from the graphic novels brought to life on screen

After a painstaking wait, Heartstopper fans have finally got their biggest wish: the official Season 3 trailer.

The nearly three-minute trailer was released on Tuesday (September 17) afternoon and fans are losing their minds over the upcoming storylines that have been teased.

The trailer opens with Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) listening to music on a beach before Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) comes over and gently pokes him in the face. A voiceover that is a mash-up of many of the show's characters begins: "Sixteen is when nothing makes sense anymore. Starting sixth form and thinking about uni options, and it's all just... a lot."

It teases a storyline around Charlie's mental health, with the character seen withdrawing from his friendship group and looking down. Nick raises his concerns directly to Charlie, telling him that he is "really worried" after noticing he has been "really stressed."

Elsewhere, a storyline around gender dysphoria is set to be explored as Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) confesses the way she is touched by Tao Xu (William Gao) brings back troubling memories for her.

Alongside the dark themes set to be explored - something the show's cast has already prepared fans for - viewers got their first glimpse at Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey's debut in the show as Insta-famous author Jack Maddox, as well as a seconds-long glimpse at the live action version of the shower scene. This is where Charlie and Nick confess their love for each other for the first time and it has been an eagerly anticipated moment for fans of the source material.

One excited fan shared: "They have the shower scene. Yes. My life is complete," while another took to the YouTube comments section to write: "How have I just started feeling like 10 emotions at once FROM A TRAILER."

Another chimed in with: "I'm both excited and afraid of what's to come. The emotional rollercoaster that awaits for us is just insane, though I also can't wait for the amount of feels and emotions that will come with this season."

Heartstopper Season 3 is out on Netflix on October 3
