Hollyoaks legend Nadine Mulkerrin has responded to a wild theory that her character Cleo McQueen dreamt the time jump which happened last year.

The Channel 4 show made history by becoming the first UK soap to jump forward 12 months into the future.

When we caught back up with the villagers a lot had changed. Some faces had left the village for pastures new, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) was in a coma, Leah Barnes (Elá-May Demircan) was pregnant and Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

The McQueens were led to believe that Cleo was living her best life in Bali but she was actually being held hostage by her evil boyfriend Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) in his flat.

As Hollyoaks marks its 30th anniversary this week by airing a special crossover episode with Brookside and bringing back Hollyoaks Later for one night only, one fan has questioned if the last 13 months didn't happen and it was just in Cleo's dream.

One fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter,: "Wait, are Hollyoaks hinting everything that happened in the time jump never actually happened and it was all in Cleo conscious mind?"

Another viewer replied: "‘OMG would they actually go with a 'it was all a dream' type of thing?"

A third person said: "It would be INSANE if she was still trapped after all of this omg … Class theory!"

Sharing her thoughts on the theory, Nadine said: "That would be so funny. Can you imagine? There's been a few hints at what's happening at Christmas on Hollyoaks Unwrapped but no comment."

Nadine has played Cleo for 10 years and the fan favourite is currently embroiled in a love traingle with her girlfriend Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) and Dodger Savage (Danny Mac).

Speaking about her latest storyline and her reacton to finding out the identity of Cleo's latest romantic interest, the actress explained: "I think she suits Sienna more.

"Sienna brings out a strength in Cleo and Cleo brings out a more softer side in Sienna. It's a great match.

"I was shocked but I got it. I had a daydream in the gym not to long ago before it happened and I wondered what they were going to get me doing next and I thought 'I bet they will get me kissing a girl'. I imagined it being in the Laters but it's iconic."

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
