Charli XCX fans convinced she's plotting clever revenge against Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift's rumoured diss track on Charli XCX could lead to a response from the Brat sensation, who shared a clip of herself working in the studio on what sounds like an unreleased song
Charli XCX fans believe the Brat singer could be plotting revenge against Taylor Swift, who appears to reference a feud in her new album.
Reception to Taylor's new album, The Life of a Showgirl, has been mixed. And there's been plenty of conversation about who the Eras Tour super-star could be referring to in her track, Actually Romantic. Taylor opened up about the song's lyrics in the album's accompanying film, saying: '[It's] a love letter to someone who hates you."
She explained: "There can be this moment where it's unveiled to you, through things that they do that are very overt. And, as I've gotten older, I've just started to be like, 'Oh my God, you did so much with this. It's flattering.
"That is, wow, that is very, very sweet of you to think about me this much, even if it's negative. In my industry, attention is affection, and you've given me a whole lot of it."
Actually Romantic features the lyrics: "I heard you call me Boring Barbie when the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me /
"Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face / Some people might be offended / But it’s actually sweet."
Some think shade has been thrown at Charli – and it seems the 365 hitmaker has also heard the new song. She's now in the studio again, leading some to speculate whether or not she will be releasing a diss track in response to Actually Romantic.
A picture of Charli in the studio has garnered more than 18.7million views on X – and people are very excited at the prospect of new music. Especially if a sassy response is in order!
One fan wrote: "Taylor messed with the wrong one. We ride for you, Charli." Another said: "Drop that diss track sis."
A third wrote: "Now THIS is how you clap back. Showgirls show, not tell." And a fourth added: "Yesss. Can't wait."
A snippet of what appears to be a new song from Charli XCX was posted by the songwriter on X earlier this week. While the clip is just a few seconds long, some are adamant it's far stronger than anything featured on Taylor's latest album.
One wrote: "The way this sounds better than half the instrumentals on Taylor's album." Another added: "Sounds like that dissonant orchestra bit from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."
Others picked up on The Beatles-like sound of the song, and jokingly suggested Charli was instead working on a cover of a song by the band.
One user joked: "Omg she's doing a cover to A Day in the Life." Meanwhile, another laughed: "Everyone thinking it's a diss track when it's literally A Day in the Life."
