Danny Dyer and Big Bang Theory star pictured on set of blockbuster Christmas film for first time

EastEnders star Danny Dyer and The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar were pictured filming for the upcoming Charles Dickens-inspired movie

Beloved soap star Danny Dyer and The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar were seen filming for their new Christmas film.

The upcoming festive movie called Christma Karma has been written, directed and produced by Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha and will be a modern Bollywood musical inspired by Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Along with Kunal as Scrooge, the movie stars Eva Longoria, Hugh Bonneville, Billy Porter, Boy George, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Eve among others.

In new pictures, EastEnders icon Danny was seen rocking a red and gold Christmas sweater emblazoned with deer and snowflakes. He completed the look with a red gilet and a flat cap. He was seen looking serious as he leaned out of a black cab during one of the scenes.

Another showed the star - who plays a cabbie - chatting away to an amused Chadha - who laughed at what he was saying. In some pictures, Kunal was seen wearing layers upon layers of clothing. On top of his dressing gown, he rocked a warm coat and looked rather different with styled but greying hair.

While conversing with Danny, he held onto a DVD copy of the soap actor's most successful film - The Business. Danny will get to reunite with EastEnders co-star Nitin Ganatra during filming for the movie. Nitin played Masood Ahmed in the soap between 2007 and 2019.

He looked dapper in another that saw him laughing as he held onto endless bags of Christmas gifts. Plot details have yet to be fully revealed but the incredible cast is enough for fans to eagerly wait for its release. The director previously said that her version of Scrooge is an 'Indian Tory who hates refugees'.

Speaking to MPs on the Digital Media and Sport Committee earlier this year about the movie, the director added the film was hard to finance due to the lead character being Indian. Discussing the storyline at the time, Chadha said: "It's very close to Dickens's original themes with the cost of living crisis in Britain."

The writer also said: "Just as I have enjoyed Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life for many years, my aim with Christmas Karma is to create a festive classic for our times and for generations to come. By adapting one of history's greatest novels – Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol – I am making a British film from my unique, original point of view but one that resonates with Dickens's masterful statement on the human condition."

She continued: "I am blessed with such a great diverse cast and eclectic music team – the soundtrack will be banging, influenced by gospel, bhangra, carols and classic pop songs. You will not be able to sit still!" Meanwhile, Danny has been busy ever since departing EastEnders in 2022.

His character Mick Carter was last seen diving into the sea to save his true love Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) on Christmas Day. The barman's body was never found, but residents of Albert Square have long assumed he met a watery end. He co-hosted Cheat alongside Ellie Taylor and hosted Scared of The Dark. He also appeared in a TV programme alongside his daughter Dani. This year, he was one of the stars appearing on The Great Celebrity Bake Off.
