Helen Mirren admits 'it's hard to get up in the morning' after she turns 80

Dame Helen Mirren revealed how she sometimes struggles to get up in the morning as the acclaimed Oscar-winning actress recently celebrated passing a milestone birthday

Oscar-winning actor Dame Helen Mirren conceded "it's sometimes hard for me to get up in the morning".


The British star, who turned 80 at the end of July, has shared an update with fans about the realities of growing older.


In an interview with Hello! magazine, she revealed that there is no secret behind her longevity and admitted that she sometimes finds it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings.


She told the magazine: "Yes, it's sometimes hard for me to get up in the morning, but the people I get to work with and the fun I get to have keeps me wanting to do more. It's still so enjoyable for me."

Dame Helen has been at the forefront of British acting for years, winning an Oscar for her role as the late Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen while also receiving nominations for her roles in The Madness of King George, Gosford Park and The Last Station.


She is now heading towards the twilight of her career but she is still keeping herself busy with a packed acting schedule.

Earlier in her interview with the magazine, Dame Helen said that she has never been one for overly exercising or dieting, she said that her policy of "doing everything, but not too much of anything" has always been her "mantra".

Her latest comments come after she was recently joined by a host of legendary actors to star in the screen adaptation of Richard Osman's debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club.


Featuring alongside the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, the film sees four retirees trying to crack cold case murders.

Dame Helen boasts a hugely impressive CV thanks to decades spent in the industry.


Starting her career on-stage, it was her role in 1984 film, Cal, that many people consider her breakthrough moment in the film industry.

In the years since then she has starred in a whole host of the country's favourite films including the likes of the Long Good Friday, The Madness of King George and Gosford Park.

While she has seen a whole host of standout career moments, possibly the most significant of them all came for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, which saw her win an Academy Award as well as a BAFTA for the same role.

During the course of her illustrious career she has also picked up a number of Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her performances in Losing Chase, The Queen, Elizabeth I, Prime Suspect and The Passion of Ayn Rand.
