Hilary Duff hopes her kids are 'compassionate' as she prepares for baby number three

Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff has praised her nine-year-old son for already being an excellent big brother as she prepares to welcome her third child

As her due date quickly approaches, Hilary Duff has told of her hope that her kids are "compassionate" and grow up to have "endless kindness" for themselves and others.

The former Lizzie McGuire star, 33, revealed her aspirations for her growing family before joking that she "needed one more to help out with the chicken coop."

She told People Magazine her dreams for her family included "[a] deep respect for everyone as an individual, a loving support system, many wonderful memories, endless kindness, and to raise hard working, compassionate individuals."

The star also revealed that she often feels "overwhelmed" with her two kids, another on the way and all the animals she has but she admitted that she "operates best" when her home is "packed".

She currently has nine-year-old Luca with her ex-husband Mike Comrie as well as Banks, two, with Matthew Koma.

She continued: "Sometimes I feel like there are never enough hands-on deck or there’s never any time but for some reason I operate best when the plate is completely packed."

However, the actress lavished praise on her oldest child. She commented that Luca is already being an excellent big brother who is always "explaining things to Banks when she doesn't understand what's going on or she doesn't get her way."

"I notice when she's acting like a 2-year-old, he's extra patient with her and begins to sound like me or Matt when he talks to her in an effort to help out or soothe Banks," she said.

"Banks will kiss my belly, but she hasn't eased up on her daily expectations of me."

Hilary also admitted that if ever she needs a break for a moment she'll take a bath or call her friends who can help her feel "like a human being".

On Tuesday she took to Instagram to share posts of her cradling her baby bump.

She seemingly revealed her relaxed state of mind on the post when she simply captioned the clip with "patience".

It came after she appeared ready for the baby to make an appearance in a previous post.
