House of the Dragon star shares vital message as he warns fans over 'unpleasant' remarks
House of the Dragon's second season included Robert Rhodes, who played Silver Denys, among the cast, and the actor took to social media recently with a message for fans
A House of the Dragon cast member has warned viewers over their use of language around his physical appearance following the penultimate episode of the latest series.
Robert Rhodes, 30, was in the seventh episode of the HBO show's second season, which aired on Monday in the UK. The Game of Thrones prequel - which has already been renewed for an upcoming third season - is set to continue in the coming days with its much awaited season finale.
The latest episode saw Robert portray the character Silver Denys, who was among a "court of commoners," all believed to have royal lineage, invited to Dragonstone by the disputed monarch Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D'Arcy). The group were brought to the castle in a bid to find a rider for the dragon Vermithor, amid conflict in the Seven Kingdoms.
Alongside his acting career, Robert, who's previously spoken about having a 'scar' on his face, describes himself as a 'face equality activist'. He's also an ambassador for the charity Changing Faces, which states that it provides support and promotes respect for "everyone with a visual difference".
Robert previously shared in a first-person piece for Metro back in 2022 that he was born with a "rare birthmark" on his face known as congenital melanocytic nevus. The actor said that he had several operations, including skin grafts, over concerns that it could become cancerous and suggested that scarring on his face was as a result of the experience.
Following the recent episode of House of the Dragon, the actor took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday with a message for fans of the show. It came in response to an apparent post elsewhere on social media about him. The post in question, which was made by an unidentified person, referenced Robert's role in House of the Dragon. It went on to comment on his appearance, saying: "FYI: That is his actual face which is deformed from a birthmark."
Robert later took to the platform to address the language used, telling his followers in his post: "Just a quick one about correct use of language when referring to scarring ... Call it a scar or a difference, the word DEFORMED isn't very pleasant and insinuates I am half formed/incorrectly formed. I'm not incorrect, just a bit different. Big love."
He concluded the post by tagging the charity Changing Faces, which he's credited as an ambassador of. A message on the charity's website states: "We are here for everyone with a scar, mark or condition on their face or body."
Earlier this week, Robert opened up about having worked on House of the Dragon. He shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos on social media and wrote alongside them: "Had an absolute blast (literally) filming this and bringing Silver Denys to life!" He continued: "Thanks to all the cast and crew and my wonderful agents [for] making it possible."
Robert - whose previous credits include BritBox's Why Didn't They Ask Evans? - added in a follow-up tweet: "It's been a big journey of acceptance and courage to put myself in the spotlight and the response has been so kind."
