Huge US singer leaves UK fans gutted as she cancels shows just hours before she’s due onstage

Gracie Abrams devastated Nottingham and Leeds' fans after two last-minute cancellations of The Secret of Us tour this week.

Singer Gracie Abrams has left her UK fans devastated after announcing two last-ditch cancellations of her tour this week.

The star who toured with Taylor Swift during her international Eras Tour, and who's most known for her relationship with Gladiator II star Paul Mescal, cancelled two separate dates of her in The Secret of Us tour at the beginning of the beginning of this week. Reportedly, the cause of such an impromptu announcement was due to the star taking ill just yesterday. Gracie cancelled her Nottingham concert mere hours before she was due on stage, leaving a stadium of fans heartbroken over their ruined evening and loss of tickets.

Gracie, 25, also pulled out of tonight's show in Leeds' First Direct Arena. She took to Instagram to post a handwritten note which said: "Nottingham + Leeds... I hate that I have to write this again so soon. Unfortunately, I am really still struggling with this illness and have been advised that I cannot perform these next two nights".

The note went on to say: "I can’t tell you how much this breaks my heart. This tour is something I’ve been dreaming of since the album came out, and the shows we’ve played so far have meant more to me than I can tell you. The moment we have any concrete details about these two shows in your cities, we will be in touch". The note finally concluded, begging fans to "please know [she]'d give anything to be able to be with" them, thanking them for their "understanding" and "sending all [her] love and deepest regrets".

The star has faced on-and-off rumours with beau Mescal the past few months and is now rumoured to have split up with the actor after nearly two years of dating. The That's So True singer is often called a 'nepo baby' due to her father being the great J.J. Abrams - a Hollywood film producer who helped created the two most famous Sci-fi series: Star Wars and Star Trek. Equally famous, Gracie's mother is Katie McGrath, an actress most known for her iconic roles as Morgana in Merlin and Zara Young in Jurassic World. Born in LA, Abrams definitely qualifies for the nepo-label.

Previously speaking to Rolling Stone, Abrams commented on the term, saying that whilst she cannot control where or to whom she was born to, "and there are a million visible and even more invisible advantages to having family members who are in any entertainment industry," she knows how hard she works. "I know how separate I’ve kept [my family] from every conversation about anything career-wise, but of course you can understand what it looks like from the outside," added the star.

Since the news broke on Monday, Gracie's fans have shared their feelings on the last-minute changes, some sharing how they had been camping outside venues and therefore would not have been able to hear the news. On X (Twitter), one fan wrote: "The Gracie Abrams girlies were queuing outside overnight in Nottingham the night before the show just for the show to get cancelled…"; another adding that "people were sleeping in the streets of Nottingham"; and a third continued, sharing they "feel bad that there’s still people out waiting for tonight’s Gracie Abrams concert in Nottingham when it’s been cancelled. Would’ve surely thought someone might go out at the arena if possible to let them know," at the time of last night's show.

A more sympathetic fan recalled Gracie's other cancellations, writing: "Gracie cancelling Brussels, Nottingham & Leeds is so heart-breaking. Her health comes first always, just hoping she heals quickly and feels better soon. Thinking of everyone who was excited to see her, I know this must be devastating :( Sending love to all of you & Gracie".

Gracie's sudden illness is apparently a continuation from her time in Brussels, forcing her to cancel that show also, before the UK leg of the tour. At the time, the singer told fans she had "been fighting off something gnarly for the past week" and despite her best efforts to contain her symptoms, she received "medical advice" saying she "cannot perform and needs to rest. At this point in time I can't give you the show you deserve and that breaks my heart, especially knowing all the travel and the planning and the care that you put into attending our show".
