Jude Law ruins everyone's Christmas with reveal about The Holiday 18 years later

Hollywood actor Jude Law has revealed a shock confession about his hit Christmas movie The Holiday as he apologised for 'bursting the bubble' for its fans

Jude Law has said he's "burst the bubble" with a confession about his Christmas classic movie The Holiday.

The actor, 51, starred in the hit film that was released in 2006. He played widower Graham, who fell in love with Cameron Diaz's character Amanda when she house swapped with Kate Winslet's journalist character Iris. The festive rom-com sees Iris move to Los Angeles and also fall in love as she met Jack Black's Miles.

Amanda moves into Iris' quintessentially British and idyllic Christmassy cottage, yet Jude has revealed a shock truth about the home. In an appearance on BBC Radio 2, comedian Kerry Godliman asked: "Can you Airbnb that cottage?" Host Zoe Ball believed people could rent out the home, however Jude settled the truth.

He said: "That cottage doesn’t exist. So the director, she's a bit of a perfectionist, toured that whole area and didn't quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for. So she just hired a field and drew it and had someone build it. But here's the funny thing if you watch it.

"So, we were shooting in the winter here and every time I go in that door, we cut and we shot the interiors in LA about three months later." Zoe replied: "We don’t want to hear anymore. We can’t bear it," as Kerry quipped: "That's very upsetting." Jude offered an apology as he said: "Just burst the bubble, sorry."

When they were filming in the UK, the Hollywood stars descended on Shere, located between the towns of Guildford and Dorking. The chocolate-box village boasts a stream with ducks, historic buildings, a tearoom, a 12th-century church, and two pubs - one of which is visited by characters Amanda and Graham for their date.

The exterior of Iris' house was built especially for the film on a hill just outside of Shere. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2003) was also filmed in Shere, with the St James' Church featured, while scenes from The Wedding Date were also filmed there. During the filming of The Holiday, actors Jude and Cameron Diaz became close.

Their on-screen chemistry carried on into their real lives. At the time, both actors were single - Cameron had recently split up with Justin Timberlake, while Jude had divorced Sienna Miller. It was reported that the year after the film was released, Jude flew to America to spend time with Cameron. But because of their recent breakups, neither party wanted to commit.

However, in 2011 more rumours circulated about them re-connecting. Cameron made her feelings for Jude clear in an interview at the time, when she told the Sunday Mirror: "Everyone has a preconceived idea about Jude which does not correspond to reality. The character he plays in The Holiday is very like him. He's charismatic, fun, open and charming. It's very easy to fall in love with him."

However, it wasn't meant to be as Cameron married Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, with the couple having daughter Raddix in 2019. Jude married Phillipa Coan in 2019, with the couple going on to have two children together.
