Jude Law shares biggest regret over his looks as he says 'I'm balding and sagging' now

Jude Law, who played playboy Dickie Greenleaf in The Talented Mr Ripley in 1999, has opened up about his acting career and the thing he wishes he'd done differently

Jude Law reckons he tried to "play against" his good looks when he was younger as he reflects on his acting career.

The seasoned star, 51, earned heartthrob status after starring in films, including The Talented Mr Ripley and The Holiday. However, Jude, who has seven children, has admitted he regrets not 'playing up' his chiselled cheek bones and emerald-green eyes, complaining he's "saggy and balding" now.

Speaking about trying to play less attractive roles in his younger years, Jude, who is currently starring in historical film Firebrand as Henry VIII, says he never "leaned into playing handsome".

Opening up about his illustrious CV, he said: "I didn’t feel like I really ever leaned into playing handsome, but there were roles that required an attractive energy.

"I was trying to play against my looks in my early 20s, and now that I’m saggy and balding, I wish I had played it up," reports DuJour magazine.

In his latest role, in which he stars opposite Alicia Vikander, who plays Henry's sixth and final wife Catherine Parr, Jude is worlds away from being a heartthrob. Sporting an oversized fur coat, the actor is aged up with a long greying beard and deep lines. He even stayed true to Henry's suspected stench.

Jude told a press conference at Cannes Film Festival: "I read several interesting accounts that you could smell Henry three rooms away. His leg was rotting so badly. He hid it with rose oil. I thought it would have a great impact if I smelt awful.”

Telling DuJour it was refreshing to '“have not leaned in to any sort of attraction," the actor concluded: "It’s been satisfying not having to turn that switch on."

The star's son, Rafferty, 27, who he shares with Sadie Frost, is also an actor, following in his father's footsteps. Rafferty recently starred in war drama series, Masters Of The Air, opposite Barry Keoghan, Callum Turner and Austin Butler.

With his famous parents, the actor has been accused of being a nepo baby - as has his sister, Iris, who has bagged a major campaign for Dylan perfume by Versace.

However, Jude admitted that he was conflicted over his son coming into the industry, saying he was "immensely proud" he shared the passion for acting, but that he was worried that Rafferty would be compared to him.

He said: "It’s complicated because I’m aware of how hard it is. When I came into this business, I didn’t have the comparison, but with him, people might always say, 'Oh, you’re just like your dad.' Which is nonsense; his career is his career."
