Katherine Ryan undergoes surgery as she shares update after skin cancer diagnosis
Comedian Katherine Ryan took to Instagram to share a health update with her followers after revealing she had been diagnosed with skin cancer for the second time
Comedian Katherine Ryan has shared a health update on Monday after she underwent another surgery. The latest operation was the star's second time in a week following her recent cancer diagnosis.
The 41-year-old comic revealed her health situation last week after a cancerous mole was discovered on her arm. It comes after she had another melanoma when she was younger. Katherine has now taken to her social media to share an update. On her Instagram Story, she uploaded an image of her arm covered with a plaster. She captioned the image: "Done," with a tick and a red love heart emoji.
Katherine has had stage two melanoma in the past, meaning she was able to recognise the signs in a mole way back in 2022. However, it took a long journey until she was able to have the mole removed and tested.
She initially shared the news on her podcast Telling Everybody. Speaking to her listeners, she revealed she had noticed a mole on her arm and decided to get it checked by a medical professional. At the time, they told her nothing was wrong, but the star admitted she was still “really worried” and felt that something was off.
Speaking of her decision to not just accept the initial opinion, she went on: "The mole kept changing, I know a lot about melanoma, I had stage two melanoma as a very young woman - aged 21 - on my leg, I’ve spoken about that before."
She later added: "But even when he looked at it, he was like, ‘it’s not melanoma, it’s totally fine, I will do a shave and send it away for testing.'"
Not long after the doctor reassured Katherine once more that it was definitely nothing she was then called back with the confirmation that it was melanoma.
She explained that she went private for the procedure but insisted she wasn't trying to insult the NHS in any way. She shared that alongside paying one clinic £300 for a “seven-minute” consultation: "The only reason that they agreed to remove it was because I went to a fancy, private place in South Kensington, and I paid them a grand."
The star initially shared that she had skin cancer on Friday, and by Sunday she was out and about again. The comedian arrived at The Grand Theatre completely makeup-free and was seemingly in high spirits.
She was seen smiling as she waved at those outside. Katherine is currently on her Battleaxe tour across the UK.
She didn't let fans down this week as she smiled and waved while heading into one of her shows just two days after announcing her skin cancer diagnosis.
