Katie Holmes' emotional update on daughter Suri Cruise 'flying the nest' for college life

Katie Holmes is going to have to adjust to life without daughter Suri Cruise.
Shared with ex Tom Cruise, the 18-year-old has lived with her mum in New York and is now gearing up for college life in Pittsburgh. Thought to be heading to Carnegie Mellon University for a career in fashion or acting, Katie is preparing herself for an 'empty nest'.
She's asked her book club, who she meets five times annually, to meet "once a week" now as the 45-year-old gets ready to be home alone. "The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me," she explains in Town & Country's September issue.
"I'll be like, 'Let's meet once a week'," she reiterates. Suri has lived alone with Katie for more than a decade, making things much harder. "I'm proud of my daughter," she told the magazine." Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy." She's thought to have encouraged the youngster's move away to college.
"I hope she always does something on my films," Holmes told Glamour in April 2023. "I always ask her." Katie told the outlet she wanted to give Suri a "safe, beautiful, creative space" to become a performer, saying it all "comes out of love".
"It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she's my heart." It was ahead of Suri's big move that a source said the teen is looking forward to the her new life with a solid group of pals. "She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent mature young woman," an insider told DailyMail.com of Suri back in June earlier this year. "She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from."
Katie shares her daughter Suri with Mission Impossible star Tom. The pair had their only child together in 2006, shortly before their fairytale wedding crumbled. Following his very public divorce from the actress, Tom has been linked to a string of Hollywood beauties including Hayley Atwell and Shakira. However, it seems the actor is yet to find love again.
Back in 2016, it was reported that Katie was banned from publicly dating for five years after signing a strict divorce settlement. However, the actress began dating Django Unchained star Jamie Foxx in secret, with the pair dating for six years before calling it quits. Per reports, Katie was prohibited from "letting her boyfriend near their daughter."
A source told Radar in 2016: "She's allowed to date, but she cannot do so in a public fashion, and she's not supposed to let any boyfriend near their daughter, Suri." By agreeing to this, Katie reportedly received £3.6million in child support and £3.8million for herself.
Reports suggest that Katie quietly started seeing Oscar-winning actor Jamie, 49, back in August 2013 after they shared the stage at a charity event in New York. However, their first encounter was seven years earlier at a football game, where they were introduced by Tom who had become friends with the Ray star during the filming of the 2004 film Collateral.
