Tom Grennan is in hospital for face surgery as he updates his fans from bed.

The singing sensation took to his Instagram stories to tell his followers that he was getting ready for an operation on his face. The star was having metal plates removed from his face after originally having them put in because he was punch.

Telling his fans why he was in hospital, Tom started out by jokingly saying: "Check the sexy gown, this morning I'm in hospital. "They've given me grief so they're coming out. In the winters I get bad jaw, locked jaw so hopefully now they're coming out it will just change my life. I'm telling you this because I can finally shut the door on this f***ing think that completely changed my life and if you're going through something similar or going through anything right now and you don't see light at the end of the tunnel, believe me."

In a separate video, Tom then goes on to say that in the past 10 years he has achieved so much despite what happened to him. He said he was "so glad" that it happened to him because otherwise he wouldn't have written some of his biggest songs.

Just before heading in for the surgery, Tom said he was "nervous" but he had his mum by his side. A few hours later, Tom posted a new clip after he'd come out of surgery.

He giggled at the camera as he told his fans he was "sore" but that it went well. Tom has also been open about his mental health in the past.

Speaking previously to the Mirror, Tom explained that talking openly about his mental health struggles "helps" him. He added: "I know a lot of people still have this thing of feeling ashamed of opening up and talking about it, so if I can be somebody who helps, even if it's one person to stand up and say 'I'm not doing well', then I'm doing something good. For me, mental health, I feel like I struggle every day but it's finding routines and ways of getting out of that mentality and trying to better myself, to better my day which then helps my thought process."
