EXCLUSIVE: Vicky McClure reveals surprising way she knew she was in love with husband
Actor Vicky McClure believes it was a meeting of the minds when she got together with husband Jonny - as she credits something that happened on their first date
Vicky McClure says she knew it was love when her husband Jonny took her for a “sausage cob” on one of their first dates.
The no nonsense Nottingham actor, is known for hit cop series Line Of Duty and Trigger Point, which is returning for a third series on ITV. Away from the cameras she married husband Jonny Owen, a writer and director, in August 2023.
Looking back Vicky said: “So when me and Jonny first met he took me for a sausage cob. And I was like, here we go. This is it. This is love. And then at the wedding night we didn’t have like a sit down meal.
"So Jonny’s Welsh, so we had Welsh rarebit and sausage cobs, and everyone was so happy. It was grab and go. Get some food, get back to the dance floor, there’s no time for faffing about. So yeah, we kept it simple. Line your stomach.”
The 42-year-old actress played DI Kate Fleming in the hit BBC crime drama Line Of Duty alongside actors Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar and earlier this week admitted she had “no updates” about another possible series.
Speaking to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast, she added: “When we did the sixth series of Line of Duty. We shot in 2020. And so for me, Martin and Adey, who, you know, like to have a good social time whilst we’re shooting and all that kind of stuff, that was gone.
“You know, it goes without saying, we’d love to go back, if anything, just to make sure that we can sort of feel like we’ve…had that again.”
She also recalled as a young actor making a 2008 film Filth and Wisdom with Madonna as director and also starring Eugene Hütz, and Holly Weston. Vicky played Juliette a pharmacy assistant living with her two flatmates.
She was told to buy some clothes for the premiere but didn’t really understand was going on so “just went to H&M” and ended up wearing something on the red carpet she slightly regrets.
Looking back she said: “I go to H&M, buy a dress that’s awful. And just got these big circles on it, with these brown saggy boots, leggings. Big silver hoops. You should Google it, it’s actually hilarious.
“And then everyone else, like Madonna looks banging, Eugene looks cool as f***, and then Holly looks great, I’m just there like, ‘I just went to H&M.’ These old baggy brown boots.
“But yeah, it was amazing. I mean, I look back now and just go, wow, that was a moment.”
