Who is Maggie Baugh? Keith Urban changes Nicole Kidman song reference amid divorce
Keith Urban sparked speculation during a recent concert when he appeared to change the lyrics referencing his estranged wife, Nicole Kidman, to make a nod at another female musician
Keith Urban and Maggie Baugh have been at the centre of speculation after his divorce from Nicole Kidman. Earlier this week, it emerged that Australian actress Nicole had reportedly filed for divorce from Keith after 19 years of marriage.
It's been said that Nicole was the one to pull the plug on their marriage, but it is not known where she chose to file for the divorce, as the former couple have homes in Los Angeles, Nashville and Australia. The once almighty couple have reportedly been living apart "since the beginning of summer", with a source saying Keith had "acquired his own residence in Nashville and moved out of their family home."
Meanwhile, Nicole, 58, is said to have been taking care of their children and had been "holding the family together through this difficult time." But while it's not known why the pair are divorcing, Keith has been at the centre of online social media speculation due to his bond with Maggie Baugh.
During a concert in Las Vegas, Keith altered lyrics that referenced Nicole to suit Maggie. On April 1, they performed The Fighter together, with Keith joining Maggie on stage, pointing at her and belting out: "I was born to love you."
He later added: "Maggie, I'll be your fighter," before they hugged one another on stage. In a more recent clip, Keith sang: "When they're tryna get to you, Maggie, I'll be your guitar player."
Maggie shared the latter on her Instagram alongside the caption: "Did he just say that," alongside a pair of eyes emoji. The post, which has been liked over 6,900 times, has been met with backlash.
"Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that tells us what he’s really all about. That's just disgusting. Nicole deserves much better," said one Instagram user. A second went on to add: "It is so trashy to do this to a song inspired by his wife. It's the ultimate ick."
"Why in the world would you post this? Have some class. Or maybe you don't mind having none. And Keith? lost all respect. Sure couples separate but to make this that public. Shame on both of them," fumed a third. Meanwhile a fourth added: "What a guy he took a song he wrote for his wife and put a different woman's name in it now there's class."
Maggie Baugh is a country music artist from Nashville. The singer released her first album, titled Dear Me, in October 2023. She currently plays utility in Keith Urban's band on his tour.
Maggie first met Keith at the Country music Television Awards in 2024, and was later invited to join him on tour. She previously gushed: "I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since my first ever show with Keith at the CMT Awards!! Who knew this show would kick off an entire year touring the world as his utility player."
The musician added: "Absolutely so grateful for all of it… every arena, every TV show, every club date … I’ll never forget it! It’s been a wild year… so here’s a little throwback to the CMT awards last year," as she posted a video from the awards ceremony on her Instagram.
Meanwhile, Nicole is said to have been left blindsided by their split and had hoped she'd be able to save their marriage. "Keith has not been honest. She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he's already moved on. It's devastating to her. She's shocked," a source told People.
The split is said to be "turning dramatic" and that Nicole has been left feeling "hurt and betrayed" amid their separation. Their separation comes just months after the country singer revealed he had been forced to be away from his family due to his latest tour. Speaking to fans, he said: "Looking out from a stage and seeing people singing, forgetting about all the stress in their lives, cutting loose, and feeling ALIVE- that's what it's about for me.
"Lots of hits, new songs, things we won’t even think about until we’re onstage and loads of guitar. We're gonna make this tour the best night of your life!"
Speaking of their relationship in 2014, Keith told Rolling Stone he was "very, very blessed" to have Nicole stage an intervention for him. It came after he had been released from rehab after three months, and the couple moved to Nashville.
The Mirror has approached Keith and Maggie's spokesperson for comment.
