Little-known benefits of bamboo bedding as shoppers ditch cotton for this unusual material

We all know how important it is to get a good nights sleep, but your bedding can play a huge role in how well you sleep - which is why bamboo bedding has become a popular option for those levelling up with their bedding

Getting a good nights sleep is something we're all after - but did you know your bed sheets can affect how well you sleep? With so many different types of bedding and fabrics out there, it can be hard to know which will give you the best slumber.

While most of us opt for cotton sheets, people are also opting for bamboo fabrics as well, and it has some little-known benefits you may not know about.

Bamboo bed sheets are made using fibres from a bamboo plant, and it's perfect for bed linen thanks to it being soft, durable and breathable, which is perfect for hot sleepers as it helps regulate temperature. It's also a very sustainable fabric making it a great eco-consious choice.

Not just that, it's one of the softest and most breathable fabrics out there, even compared to Egyptian cotton - with a silky smooth feel, it can be very comfortable on your skin. It's also hypoallergenic which helps to keep dust mites and bacteria at bay, making it a perfect choice for allergy sufferers.

It can be a little more expensive than cotton, but bamboo sheets are much easier to wash, and stay durable for a longer period of time - with some people saying they even get better the more they are washed.

During the washing cycle it will retain more water, making the fabric softer and softer after every wash

A great option for a bamboo fitted sheet is the Cozy Earth fitted sheet (£125) made with viscose from bamboo. A breathable weave that keeps you at the perfect temperature and features an incredibly soft sateen finish. The continuous elastic hem assists in easy bed-making and allows the sheet to hug your mattress just right.

An alternative, and slightly cheaper option is the Panda Bamboo White Fitted Sheet (£40) from Dunelm. 100% organically grown viscose bamboo, with a 320 thread count. Twice as soft as cotton, the fabric has a silky smooth touch that ensures utmost comfort, and with anti-allergy properties

Cosy House also offer a luxury bamboo fitted sheet (£28) from Amazon, with a viscose blend. Softer than silk and stronger than cotton, it makes any bed feel like hotel quality.

It is also temperature-regulating and moisture-wicking properties help circulate airflow giving you the perfect night sleep every time. Whats's more, it's also machine washable and dryer-friendly (cold wash and tumble dry, low heat) and no ironing needed either.
