Harris Dickinson condemns 'strange' fan comments after steamy scenes with Nicole Kidman
British actor Harris Dickinson has spoken candidly about his thoughts on receiving sexualised comments over his character in the film 'Babygirl' and the steamy scenes with Nicole Kidman.
Harris Dickinson has condemned fans sexualising him following the success of Babygirl, where the British actor shared steamy scenes with American sensation Nicole Kidman.
Released in December 2024, Babygirl follows the story of Romy Mathis (Nicole Kidman), a high-powered CEO who puts her entire career and family at stake by beginning an affair with a much younger intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson).
Speaking about the film's success, Harris emphasised the reaction from some fans and admitted he “didn’t really enjoy” what viewers were saying about his character in the controversial film, which grossed $64.6 million (£48.1 million) worldwide, as per Box Office Mojo.
He told the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast: “I’m proud to have worked on it, I love Halina [Rejin, the writer, director and producer] and working with Nicole was the most exciting thing for me. But the way fans reduced some of it was quite strange. You can’t really control that, and you can’t really get caught up in it, but people are strange.”
Harris also spoke about the difference between comments made towards men and women, adding: “I think it’s OK to do this to make actors, weirdly. That’s the problem.” The actor expressed discomfort at the comments he received from women, describing it as “deeply inappropriate.”
The British actor recalled a moment during the film’s press tour, where he struggled to respond to a viewer’s comment and had to “laugh it off”.
He added: “People could say, 'Well, you did a film that you knew was going to be somewhat erotic.’ It’s, like, yeah, but the film that we made and the approach that Halina [Reijn] spoke about, for me, was something way more unique. It wasn’t a reductive thing in my mind.”
