Sarid Drory - An Apology

In an article titled ‘‘Career con-artist’ accused of loud ‘patio sex’ and letting dogs poo in swanky property’ (18 November 2023) it was reported that Mr Sarid Drory had been accused of being a ‘career con artist’ in a legal claim in the US regarding substantial rent arrears.

We would like to rectify the misstatements made in our article, including those in the headline. We did not intend to suggest that there was any truth in the allegations made against Mr Drory in the court claim referenced. We accept that our report and its headline contained some inaccuracies about the proceedings and content that did not form part of the proceedings. We acknowledge that subsequent to our article’s publication, in February 2024, the proceedings we referred to were dismissed and the disparaging allegations made therein were struck from the record by the court on the basis that their only purpose was to attack Mr Drory.

We also wish to make clear that, contrary to the suggestion in the article, that Mr Drory has had a long career as an owner and operator of many successful New York restaurants including the Ye Waverly Inn. We have since confirmed that in fact he owned and successfully ran the restaurant for a period of over a decade, during which he created its famous garden before it was purchased by its current owners and became The Waverly Inn and Garden.

We have removed the article from publication and we apologise to Mr Drory for any distress that may have been caused.
