It Chapter 2 star Bill Skarsgard: "Pennywise has changed" due to feeling fear

It Chapter 2 will see Pennywise the Clown return to Derry to terrorise the Loser's Club

You'll float too!

It Chapter 2 is on its way at the end of the summer and fans of the first film in the series based on the Stephen King novel and starring Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown have been waiting with bated breath for the villain to make his comeback.

Now Skarsgard has revealed to Total Film magazine that his iconic evil-doer has undergone a substantial change in the 27-year-gap between the events of the first film and its sequel.

Bill Skarsgard says: "Pennywise has changed. The first movie ended with Pennywise, for the first time, feeling fear himself."

He adds: "He is an entity that inflicts fear on people, and he feeds off of it. He's obsessed with it. But now he's feeling it and realising, 'Oh this is what I've been doing for so long.' That changed him."

On the clown's actions in the sequel, the actor says "I think it's interesting. You know, maybe he's craving to get back to that feeling - to feel alive again the way the kids made him feel alive.

"It might be subconscious. And there;s been a more conscious approach to it, which is, 'OK, they almost got me the first time. This time, I'm going to get them back, and I'm going to get them back hard.'

With Pennywise hellbent on revenge in the sequel, it's clear that not all of the Loser's Club are getting out alive, and it's quite an inventive form of vengeance that he takes.

"Well, if you know Pennywise, you know it will be a twisted, dark way of doing it," says Skarsgard.

The film also stars James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader as adult members of the Loser's Club.

It Chapter 2 is released in UK cinemas on September 6, 2019.
