Sydney Sweeney stars in The Housemaid trailer to distorted Sabrina Carpenter soundtrack
The Housemaid is based on the worldwide best-selling 2022 novel of the same name by author Freida McFadden.
Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried fans have been given their first glimpse at the upcoming creepy thriller The Housemaid.
Last year, Lionsgate gave the go ahead for McFadden’s thriller The Housemaid to be adapted, bringing to life the intense relationship between a housemaid and a beautiful home’s matriarch.
Now finally, the official trailer for The Housemaid has dropped, teasing its Boxing Day, Friday, December 26, release date.
Starring Mamma Mia’s Amanda Seyfried and Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, the trailer begins with Nina (Seyfried) warmly greeting Millie (Sweeney).
She tells her potential new housemaid what her duties will consist of before reminding Millie that it is a live-in role, something her husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) didn’t seem to know anything about.
As Nina gives her the “grand tour”, a distorted version of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit song Please, Please, Please plays in the background.
Things quickly turn sinister as Nina tells Millie: “I want you to feel safe here”, before blankly staring at her and handing over a key to lock her bedroom door.
This is followed by a series of clips including Nina angrily smashing dishes and screaming in her car.
The Winchester’s house is then surrounded by police cars with their daughter at the back of an ambulance but what happened to her?
The next image fans see is of Nina smiling disturbingly as she holds up a shard of glass covered in blood.
The Housemaid’s trailer then flits back to the very beginning as Nina and Millie say their goodbyes after the interview.
Millie waves as she drives off but when she is out of sight, the smile quickly fades as she takes off her glasses, hinting at a potentially more sinister motive.
Excitedly taking to YouTube’s comments section, someone wrote: “The attention to detail! As someone who has read the book, this trailer does justice.”
“Here to watch Amanda Seyfried DEVOUR this role!” a second posted.
While another commented: “Whoever decided to use 'Please Please Please' for this trailer deserves a raise.”
As well as Seyfried and Sweeney, The Housemaid also stars 1923 actor Brandon Sklenar, 365 Days’ Michele Morrone and Soundtrack star Megan Ferguson.
The Housemaid premieres on Friday, December 26, in cinemas
