Scottish actress Tilda Swinton unites with iconic Spanish director Pedro Alomodovar on colourful new short film The Human Voice.

The film marks Pedro Almodovar's first film in the English language and has now released its new UK poster and trailer.

His films in his native Spanish language are already iconic, most notably the likes of Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother, Talk to Her, Volver, and Pain & Glory.

The official synopsis for the new short reads: "Madness and melancholy intersect to thrilling effect as Almodóvar reimagines Jean Cocteau’s short play The Human Voice for an era in which isolation has become a way of life.

"Laws of desire become the rules of the game as Tilda Swinton’s unnamed woman paces and panics in a glorious Technicolor apartment where décor offers a window into her state of mind.

"A short, sharp shot of distilled Almodóvar: passion, emotion, heartbreak, wit, and melodrama exquisitely bound up in a tale for our times."

The Human Voice was filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic in Madrid across nine days in July.

The film has already won immense critical praise and will screen as part of BFI London Film Festival 2020 later this month.
