Jay Kelly film showcases 'Oscar-worthy' performance by one Hollywood star

Jay Kelly is a coming-of-age comedy drama directed by Noah Baumbach and starring George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Laura Dern.

Jay Kelly arrives on Netflix on December 5, after hitting cinemas on November 14, and an official trailer has now dropped.

The flick charts renowned film star Jay Kelly as he sets off on a voyage of self-exploration alongside his loyal manager Ron.

George Clooney takes on the title role, whilst Adam Sandler portrays his manager Ron Sukenick.

The coming-of-age comedy drama enjoyed its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in August, securing a nomination for the Golden Lion - the festival's most prestigious accolade.

Enthusiasts flocked to the YouTube comments to voice their opinions on the fresh trailer.

@Rasim9898 proposed this might be Adam Sandler's opportunity to clinch an Oscar, writing: "Give this guy an Oscar already. I've noticed for a long time that comedic actors do a great job with dramatic roles. I think he should have won an Oscar for Uncut Gems."

@JohnMarArancon concurred: "One of the frontrunners for Best Picture at the Oscars 2026."

@khalidhenry3857 chimed in: "They had me at Adam Sandler," whilst @mannyford1046 remarked: "Interesting. I'll definitely check this out."

Meanwhile on X, previously Twitter, pandavishnu8 HUDL declared: "Star-studded cast makes this film promising can't wait to watch."

The movie also features Laura Dern as Liz, Jay's publicist, and Jim Broadbent as Peter Schneider, a recently departed director who launched Jay's career. Riley Keough takes on the role of Jessica Kelly, Jay's eldest daughter, whilst Grace Edwards portrays Daisy Kelly, Jay's youngest daughter.

The film has already secured a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 78%, with numerous critics applauding Sandler's performance.

Awards Radar commented: "Jay Kelly is a funny and soulful gem from Noah Baumbach that may well break your heart, with George Clooney and Adam Sandler doing some of the very best work of their careers."

In Review Online remarked: "That Baumbach, Clooney, Sandler, et al. have managed to squeeze so much comedic gold and genuine pathos out of such an existential, and arguably personal, downer only illustrates what a wondrously strange picture Jay Kelly is."
