'Masterpiece' Prime Video thriller that left fans 'disturbed' is a must-watch for Squid Game fans

The cult classic has found a new streaming home

An action-packed thriller viewers described as 'heart-pounding' is now available to stream on Prime Video - and it is a must-watch for Squid Game fans.

Released in 2008, The Chaser follows a former policeman Joong-ho Eom (Kim Yoon-seok) who takes charge of a group of sex workers after leaving the force. When women start to disappear, he suspects a serial killer is on the loose and attempts to hunt them down.

Alongside leading man Kim Yoon-seok, The Chaser's cast includes The Handmaiden star Ha Jung-woo, My Demon's Kim Yoo-jung and Bedevilled's Seo Young-hee. It was the directorial debut of Na Hong-kin who went on to make acclaimed 2016 horror film The Wailing.

Prime Video's synopsis teases: "Ex-policeman Joong-ho believes he's caught the serial killer responsible for the disappearance of two young women. But when the bureaucratic police department are forced to release him, Joong-ho finds himself in a race against time to find evidence against the killer before it's too late."

Meanwhile a second viewer added: "One of the best thriller films I've seen. This film is squirm [sic] and gripping with dark and disturbing hard to watch scenes."

A third echoed the praise, writing: "One of the best thrillers I have watched. It's suspenseful and horrifying and keeps your heart pounding till the end credits roll. Kudos to both the leads, in particular I like how the hero is a flawed human being."

The Korean thriller is a solid pick for fans of Squid Game owing to its flawed protagonist, dark themes and comedic moments peppered in. The Chaser's fans also likened it to other acclaimed Korean thrillers like Memories of Murder and I Saw The Devil.
