Netflix adds 'funniest movie of the last 5 years' that is 'totally unexpected'
Netflix fans are told to add the film to their watchlist right away.
As part of the latest additions to Netflix's extensive library is a title that has been described as the 'funniest movie of the last five years'.
In the streaming giant's latest update, the film Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain has been added from today (October 11). Originally released in 2023 on US streaming service Peacock, now UK subscribers can discover the film from the comfort of their own home.
The movie is the first feature length project from comedy troupe and Saturday Night Live cast members known as Please Don't Destroy, real names Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall.
They are known for creating pre-record digital shorts for the show. One of their most popular was one guest starring Taylor Swift.
The members play fictionalised versions of themselves in the film. According to its synopsis, the story follows three friends living as each other's roommates feels discontented with their trajectory of life. Soon, they go on a hunt to find a gold treasure that is believed to be buried at a nearby mountain.
It also includes memorable cameo appearances from late night host Conan O'Brien, fellow SNL alum Bowen Yang as well as comedian Megan Stalter who has since gone on to star in Netflix's Too Much.
Treasure of Foggy Mountain endured mixed reviews from critics upon its initial release. However, many fans have sung its praises, resulting in an impressive popcornmeter fan score of 89% on website Rotten Tomatoes.
One fan advised others: I didn't know anything about this movie going into it, have never heard of any of the actors/writers (besides Conan), haven't watched SNL since the 90s, was dead sober while watching, and I found it to be absolutely hysterical. Loved it!"
They continued: "Definitely had it's strange moments like 'WTF is going on' and sometimes seemed like it was trying too hard, but I don't really think that mattered in the end. You can't take any of it seriously (they clearly didn't), so just sit back and enjoy the ride!"
Someone else added: "Funny, zany and totally unexpected comedy from a team that produces out of the box humour. Supporting roles from Bowan Yang and Conan O'Brien dial up the comedy fire and star power of this story."
While one person simply stated: "The funniest movie that's come out in the past 5 years." Another compared it to a comedy classic: "This movie was hilarious and I laughed audibly throughout. 2020s Superbad-esque with an excellent cast!"
Other fans admitted to watching multiple times and still finding themselves laughing throughout. A viewer posted: "Brilliant comedy - loved these guys on SNL, loved them in this movie. Their comedic genius is unmatched and I could not stop laughing throughout the entirety of this movie."
