Some truly iconic films are being added to the service
Netflix have just made sure that next week is huge for action adventure movie fans by adding the 'best film series of all time'.
The feel-good nature of the Easter bank holiday will carry on into the following week as the first four Indiana Jones films will all be added to the platform's extensive library. This is includes Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade along with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
These titles were released between 1981 and 2008 with all of them being directed by Steven Spielberg. This is a huge coup for the streaming giant as the franchise is now currently owned by Disney, ever since the company purchased Lucasfilm. They were eventually added to the corporations own streamer but will now be made available to a wider audience for an as yet unknown length of time.
The character was created by George Lucas as his follow up to Star Wars. He was helped with fellow writer and director Phillip Kaufman who suggested the Ark of the Covenant as the MacGuffin for the first film. Lucas then got Spielberg involved after meeting him while on holiday and suggesting he had something he could make that would be "better than James Bond".
Harrison Ford would take on the now iconic role of Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr. a fictional professor of archaeology who gets up to all sorts of adventures outside his classroom. Ford has played the character in five films. However, the most recent titled Dial of Destiny is not being added to Netflix just yet.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is is set in 1936 and sees Indiana Jones hired by government agents to locate the Ark of the Covenant, a gold plated chest containing the stone tablets Moses used to inscribe the Ten Commandments. He is in a race before the Nazi Germans steal it for themselves.

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
Sky Stream lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Day of the Jackal and the second season of Squid Game.
The Temple of Doom is actually a prequel and set a year before the first film. Indiana arrives in India, and is asked by villagers of a remote hamlet to retrieve a mystical stone and rescue young boys kidnapped from the village.
Last Crusade is the first true sequel and set in 1938 where Indiana is on a journey to find the Holy Grail. He follows a trail left by his estranged father, played in the film by Sean Connery, before his sudden disappearance. Indiana must save his father and learn what matters most while also battling Nazis.
The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is set nearly 20 years after The Last Crusade. It is the peak of the Cold War, and Indiana Jones finds himself racing against pro-Soviet agents to find the famed Crystal Skull of Akator in Peru. This film sees Shia LaBeouf join the cast as Indiana's son Mutt.
Going by Rotten Tomatoes scores, the first is the best by far with Raiders of the Lost Ark managing an impressive 94%. Last Crusade has 84% while both Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom have 77%. The franchise has even picked up seven Oscars in total in categories for Editing and Special Effects.
Indiana Jones retains a special place in the heart of many film fans who consider it as the best movie series ever created. IMDB lists it as the fifth greatest franchise, one place ahead of 007, James Bond, seemingly proving Lucas right all along.
One fan, sharing their thoughts on the original film posted online saying: "For me it is not only the best of the series but one of the greatest adventure films ever made. It is breathless excitement from start to finish, and to be honest I cannot fault it really. "
Another added: "This movie is no doubt one of the best action movies ever.... but one of the best movies ever. This movie is a thrill ride from start to finish. If you never seen an Indiana Jones film come on man, what are you doing with your life? The movie starts off white probably one of the most iconic intros ever."
Indiana Jones 1-4 is streaming on Netflix from April 25.
