Netflix drops captivating trailer for period drama hailed as 'best film of the year'
Critics claim it will become one of the greatest films of the decade
A period drama hailed as 'the best film of the year' is coming to Netflix on November 21.
The streaming giant has just released a captivating trailer for Train Dreams, a moving film based on Denis Johnson's popular novella.
It follows young orphan Robert Grainier, whose life unfolds during a time of unprecedented change in 20th-century America. Roberts grows up to become a logger working on expanding the nation's railroads.
After settling down with his wife Gladys and starting their young family, the protagonist's life takes a dramatic turn that forces him to reconsider his place in the world.
Netflix's synopsis adds: "An ode to a vanishing way of life, an ever-evolving world, and to the extraordinary possibilities that exist within even the most simple of existences, Train Dreams captures a time and place that are now long gone, and the people who built a bridge to a future they could only dream of."
The story was co-written and directed by Academy Award nominee Clint Bentley, who co-wrote the hugely popular 2023 drama Sing Sing.
Train Dreams also boasts an impressive cast with Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton leading the cast as Robert, alongside Oscar nominee Felicity Jones as his on-screen wife.
Sinners star Nathaniel Arcand also features, alongside Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl and Paul Schneider.
While the period piece is coming to Netflix in just a few weeks, it originally premiered at Sundance Film Festival back in January. This means critics have already shared their verdicts, and they are overwhelmingly positive.
Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave the drama a stellar 98% score, with their consensuses stating: "A gorgeous meditation on America, ably shouldered by one of Joel Edgerton's very best performances, Train Dreams takes on mythic proportions while maintaining an intimate emotional delicacy."
Another critic on the movie-rating site gushed: "This is one of the great films of the year. In time, it will become one of the best in a decade, then one of the movies that people speak of when asked what inspired them in their life. It is a masterpiece."
Meanwhile, Daily Beast crowned Train Dreams as the "best film of this year's Sundance Film Festival".
