'One of the best movies' lands on Disney+ just months after cinema release
Disney Plus has added a heartwarming film that fans say is a 'must watch'
A touching film that has viewers "crying" is now available to stream without charge and proves ideal for a cosy autumn evening indoors.
Pixar's Elio hit cinemas back in June 2025, but has finally arrived on Disney Plus today (September 17), delighting eager fans. The tale centres on a young boy who gets whisked away from Earth by alien beings.
A massive blunder results in him being mistaken for the planet's commander. Disney reveals: "The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession.", reports the Express.
"So, when he's beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio's all in for the epic undertaking."
Elio quickly builds fresh relationships with quirky alien beings and must "discover who and where he is truly meant to be."
Despite facing some backlash during its theatrical run, the picture has gained a devoted following who declare it essential viewing. Boasting an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one fan gushed: "OMG, I don't know where to start.
"Saw it in movies, and watched it 3 times over, and I'm still not tired. Elio is cute, relatable (in some ways) and characters and plot is awesome. Totally must see."
A second viewer commented: "This movie made me cry, but in a very nice way. The fact that everybody from around the world was trying to help them fly was touching. Pixar always makes amazing and touching moments."
One viewer gushed: "One of the best movies to come out of Disney in quite a while." Another declared it their "new favourite movie."
Over on Google reviews, one fan enthused: "Elio is a film that truly shines, offering a unique and deeply relatable experience that left a lasting impression."
Another commented: " I've heard so much criticism for this movie but almost cried at least 5 times while watching it. It's a really beautiful movie that I think everyone should give a chance before listening to someone else."
Disney Plus previously unveiled new content featuring "unforgettable moments from recent fan favourites as well as beloved classics, which can all be enjoyed at home on the streaming platform."
Following the success of last year's 'Inside Out 2', which became the top premiere on Disney Plus in 2024, Elio has now made its debut on the platform.
