Prime Video adds '90 minutes of pure bloody, comedic horror gold' with Downton Abbey star

Prime Video has added a film that is said to be '90 minutes of pure bloody comedic horror gold' that features a Downton Abbey star.
The Monkey was only just released in cinemas earlier this year but is already available to stream from home. It quickly became one of the most talked about horror releases of the year, with its all-star cast, gruesome scenes and dark sense of humour.
According to its synopsis, after discovering their father's old toy Monkey in the attic, twin brothers Hal and Bill are haunted by a series of chilling deaths. Hoping to escape its curse, they discard the Monkey and go their separate ways. But the deaths begin again.
It was written and directed by Oz Perkins who also helmed 2024 hit Longlegs, which was compared to classic The Silence of the Lambs. The Monkey stars Perkins himself as Uncle Chip, alongside Downton Abbey and The Gentlemen star Theo James in a dual role as twins Bill and Hal.
Starring alongside him are Black Orphan's Tatiana Maslany, Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood and Severance star Adam Scott, to name a few.
The film itself is based on a short story written by bestselling author Stephen King and the acclaimed writer gave his seal of approval to the adaptation.
He posted on social media: "You've never seen anything like The Monkey. It's b*****t insane. As someone who has indulged in b*********y from time to time, I say that with admiration."
It is a recommendation shared by many critics and fans alike. One reviewer claimed: "The Monkey is pure carnage, comedy, and thesa9 chaos of existence."
Another added: "Perkins is not known for comedy, but The Monkey is brutally, laugh-out-loud funny and features some of the most unique deaths ever in a horror movie, and extreme blood and gore. It’s not for the faint of heart."
Meanwhile one fan simply declared: "The Monkey is 90 minutes of pure bloody, comedic horror gold." Someone else said: "Cult classic. Must see. Steven king short story.
