Prime Video adds sequel to Netflix's 'forgotten' Liam Neeson action thriller
Some of his biggest fans may have overlooked the Taken star's latest outing
Prime Video has quietly added a sequel to Netflix's 'forgotten' Liam Neeson action thriller.
Ice Road: Vengeance has recently been made available for subscribers to the retail giant's subscription. It had a limited release in cinemas earlier this year but did not enjoy a big as an impact as another of Neeson's 2025 releases, The Naked Gun remake.
Instead, this sequel has quickly made its way to streaming platforms. It is a follow up to 2021's The Ice Road.
That film saw the Irish actor star as one of a team of truck drivers on a dangerous mission over frozen lakes and winter roads. They were tasked with delivering a crucial component to save workers trapped in a collapsed diamond mine.
The original and its new sequel were both released on Netflix for users in the USA. In the UK however, they are only available via Prime Video.
Fans should not confuse either with another of Neeson's outings, Cold Pursuit, in which he plays a snow plough driver out for revenge following the death of his son.
According to the synopsis of Ice Road: Vengeance, a grieving American ice road trucker, Mike McCann (Neeson), travels to Nepal to fulfil his late brother's final wish and scatter his ashes on Mt. Everest. There he meets Dhani, a skilled mountaineer, who agrees to guide him along the infamous Road to the Sky.
Despite its low budget and unassuming release, one critic claimed that it 'feels like a true Hollywood blockbuster'.
They also said: "Ice Road: Vengeance has a strong story, great performers, beautiful backdrops, and a gripping action plot. The writing and direction are excellent, and the film balances action and high thrills. While the visual effects are a little clunky, it's easily forgivable due to everything else working together smoothly."
Another reviewer, while noting there are significantly fewer icy roads in this sequel, claimed it could be quickly forgotten just as the original may be among even the most dedicated of Neeson fans.
While it doesn't seemed destined to bring in more high scoring reviews, there are still many fans who have shared positive thoughts about the film.
A person posted online claiming it is Neeson's "best since TAKEN." Someone else added: "Action-packed thrill ride! Liam Neeson drives a tour bus this time. The tour bus action scenes was suspenseful and Nepal was awesome. Fan Bingbing was very charming as always. This Ice Road movie is way more better than the first one! Highly rewatchable!"
Ice Road: Vengeance is streaming on Prime Video.
