Robert Redford’s classic Western described as ‘one of the best films in Hollywood history’ is currently streaming

The legendary Hollywood star Robert Redford has sadly died at the age of 89

One of Robert Redford’s most iconic movies ever is currently available to stream on Disney+.

The Hollywood icon and pioneer of the Sundance Film Festival is confirmed to have died in his sleep on Tuesday morning at his Utah home.

Publicist Cindi Berger has confirmed, via Deadline: “Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah, the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved.

“He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”

The legendary star of the silver screen was 89 years old.

Following the loss of such a beloved figure from cinema history, movie buffs will undoubtedly be flocking to streaming services in search of his most iconic films.

They’re in luck as arguably his most celebrated role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is on Disney+ at no extra cost for subscribers.

The 1969 film directed by George Roy Hill was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning four for cinematography, screenplay, score and song.

It’s widely considered one of the best films of the 20th Century, so there’s no better time to delve into Redford’s early career following the sad loss of the Hollywood icon.

One five-star Google review raved: “There's no other way to describe George Roy Hill's 1969 classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid than simply classic American filmmaking at its finest as iconic screenwriter William Goldman pens one of the best scripts in Hollywood history, and this film gets lucky in casting two of the best movie stars of all-time in Paul Newman and Robert Redford as Butch and Sundance respectively.”

They went on to explain that despite its mixed reviews at the time, the film has since “become one of the most influential films of all-time as the dialogue is truly exceptional as Newman and Redford deliver it with such ease that it never feels as if they're trying to be funny but simply say hilarious things at the perfect time.”

Another film fan described Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as a “triumph” and “a perfect film”.

“Not many movies work on every level but this is perfection,” they continued.

“The acting, direction and script are top notch. Newman and Redford work so well together and they have a great supporting cast.”

And a final viewer wrote: “Hill's best film. It's one of the top ten Westerns of all time. It is arguably the greatest best buddy flick ever made.

“Telling a film story doesn't get any better. The entire production is superbly crafted. The narrative immerses the viewer inside the bank robbing journey.
