Star Wars fans 'torn' as The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer drops

The fanbase has been left with conflicting opinions following the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

Star Wars fans have just received a glimpse into The Mandalorian and Grogu spin-off film, and it's already sparking debate among fans.

The forthcoming fantasy film, set to drop in May 2026, released its first teaser trailer on Monday, September 22nd.

Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu follows the titular duo as they work to "protect everything the Rebellion fought for."

The synopsis reads: "The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin his young apprentice Grogu."

As in the Disney+ series, which has impressively won 15 Emmy Awards, Pedro Pascal takes on the role of The Mandalorian.

He is joined by three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, with acclaimed musician Ludwig Göransson serving as the movie's composer.

Given the stature of the Star Wars fandom, the teaser has naturally become a hot topic just an hour after its release.

The franchise's social media posts of the trailer have already amassed over a million views, with many expressing their excitement to see the space story back on screens.

"The duo returns! AMAZING," penned one online user, while another gushed: "THE SCORE, OH MY GOD."

Someone else chimed in with: "When I see the font they have used to write 'The Mandalorian And Grogu', I feel very nostalgic because it reminds me of old movie posters."

However, others have been left conflicted by the 90-second teaser. Someone voiced their critique on YouTube, penning: "This just looks like one episode of the show."

Someone else agreed, responding: "It really does. It's just going to be a feature-length episode...and that's okay, I guess, but nothing about this trailer blew me away even a little bit."

Meanwhile, another unimpressed fan added on Twitter, now X: "When is the next great Star Wars movie trilogy going to happen? Mando was great and all but I want more than just these one-offs."
