Shoppers in stitches at clever Marks & Spencer campaign showing reality of parenting
Parents couldn't help but laugh at Marks and Spencer's photoshoot showing a boy wearing a winter coat, as many thank them for showing what it's really like to dress a child for winter
Every parent knows just how difficult it can be to buy your children new clothes - especially when they're not in the mood to try anything on. Making fun of this, M&S has made online shoppers laugh with their photoshoot showing a young boy wearing its 'Padded Hooded Colour Block Coat' for ages six to 16.
The accompanying image shows the boy wearing the £38 coat in an unusual way - with the neck resting above his shoulders while his arms hang loosely outside the sleeves. In the comments, many parents praised M&S for sharing a "real" representation of how young boys actually wear coats, saying the model's expression matches that of their children.
On Facebook, user Fran, known as Whinge Whinge Wine, said: "This is actually exactly how my kid wears his coat. Well played, M&S."
Another user added: "6-16 years. We all know that once you are 13 it's embarrassing to even own a coat, let alone wear one."
A third user joked: "Can we have a photo of it scrunched up in a ball at the bottom of his bag whilst he walks home in the pouring rain? Ta."
One more user added: "Today I saw a child wearing just a detached hood - it was up and buttoned around their neck, but the coat part was nowhere to be seen.
"And really, isn’t this all they need? Imagine if shops just started selling hoods for children that don’t like coats but still want to keep their hair perfect…?"
Another user said: "I feel seen! Daily battle to wear a coat and it ends up looking like this."
One more user added: "Your kid wears a coat?! I make mine at least stuff hers in her bag just so the school doesn’t try to send one home because they think she doesn’t own one."
A final user said: "Omg I feel like you've seen my daughter at the school bus stop.
"I drop her off nice and neat, drive round past her again and she's stood like that. It is not kind to her curly hair."
In other pictures, the boy is seen wearing the coat as normal - but he is yawning in one of them, suggesting he isn't impressed.
It's description reads: "Keep them cosy on chilly days in this statement colour block coat. It's designed in an easy regular fit, with a secure zip fastening. A cosy hood offers extra protection, while ribbed cuffs lock in warmth.
"This warm padded design is complete with practical pockets and a rubberised patch on the sleeve."
