Weeds 'die in a day' when gardeners use kitchen item that 'works the best'

Weeds can be a real pain in the garden, but there are natural ways to get rid of them - and lemon juice is one of the best as well as garlic being very beneficial for gardens

Weeds don't just sprout in the usual spots like amidst other plants, but also crop up in unexpected places such as gravelled areas and between patio slabs.

The most straightforward method to eradicate weeds is often to use a weed killer laden with chemicals, however, many people are against this approach. An alternative way to get rid of the weeds is to yank them out manually, although this can be quite laborious and tiring.

Opting for a chemical-free solution might take a bit longer to show results, but it ensures your garden remains safe for humans, pets, and local wildlife alike.

Gardening experts at Eco Gardener have divulged a few natural techniques - one of which promises to make the weeds "shrivel and die in a day", reports the Express.

The gardening gurus explained that the type of acidic compound found in lemon juice makes it a "natural enemy of weeds". They further stated: "Lemon juice kills weeds so effectively that it's considered to work as the best natural weed killer there is.

"The citric acid in lemon juice dries out weed foliage until the weeds shrivel up and die in just a matter of a day."

For this technique, gardeners can utilise fresh lemon juice or purchase a bottle of lemon juice drink. Simply pour the juice directly onto the weedy patches and you're sorted.

Do ensure to steer clear of the nearby plants and crops when spraying or pouring the juice on the weedy patches. If you wish to make the juice "even more potent", blend a bit of garlic juice into it.

Garlic is "incredibly beneficial" to the garden as it helps "deter pests, prevents the spread of diseases, and improve the health of your outdoor space".

To utilise garlic as a weed killer, whizz three cloves of garlic with a splash of water in the blender until lovely and smooth. Filter the processed garlic and decant the essence into a spray bottle.

To make the mixture "extra sticky", incorporate a tablespoon or two of molasses. This way, the solution will "adhere to the weeds and won't be washed away easily".
