Music lovers think UK pop sensation has dropped the 'worst song' of the year
A new song from a household name has been dubbed the 'worst song' of the year, with many left in disbelief over the track, with some considering it a contender for worst of the year
Music lovers believe a UK chart-topper has just released the "worst song" of the year. A post to Reddit saw fans discuss the lack of quality on the song and many were in disbelief that it was actually released. While there is still a few months to go before the end of the year, the worst song to release this year seems to be out now.
One listener of the song took to the r/FantanoForever forum and wrote: "Not a name I would wager comes up here often, but I had to probe if anyone else has heard this disaster. It's hard to know where to begin. Has anyone else had the displeasure of hearing this?"
The singer in question, Olly Murs, has surprised both returning listeners and newcomers with his new song Bonkers. The original poster of the thread added: "Olly Murs - Bonkers. The worst song of 2025. Almost unimaginably bad."
Another added: "Listened to it and yeesh that was really bad." A third shared: "This was painful."
Others were left stunned by Murs' decision to name the song Bonkers given the hit song of the same name by Dizzee Rascal.
One person wrote: "The UK already having an iconic song called Bonkers in the last 20 years should have made this title exempt from being used. It’s not a cover, it’s honestly worth listening to because it’s as awful as everyone is saying. The YouTube comments on the song are hilarious."
Another listener was amused by Murs' previous calls for a BRIT Award. Murs had previously said he feels "sour" about not having won anything from the awards body.
He said: "Do you know what, I do and I don't, because I never won a Brit which kind of is a little bit sour for me..." But some were left amused by his quote, especially now with the context of his new song, Bonkers.
One person wrote: "I just listened to it and it's basically three minutes of him trying to farm a viral five-second TikTok sound." Another added: "Remember when he moaned about never winning a BRIT award."
Not everyone was disappointed by the song though, with the comments on his YouTube channel filled with praise.
One person wrote: "I LOVE IT." Another added: "Love it dude, it's so much different to what you usually do."
Others were not as pleased and made their opinions known in the YouTube comments. One detractor commented: "I am PRAYING this is not on the radio." Another added: "Those verses are like nails down a chalkboard. Chorus, I can just about tolerate... just."
A third fumed: "Music for people who don't know what music is." The song currently has 325,000 streams on Spotify, and a further 84,000 on YouTube.
