Cleaner shares one area of your home you should clean first to prevent spreading germs
A hotel cleaner shared the areas of your home you should clean first to ensure you're not spreading germs
There's nothing quite like the feeling of stepping into a freshly cleaned hotel room. From the pristine white sheets to the gleaming, dust-free surfaces, professional cleaners certainly know their stuff when it comes to making your room spotless, reports the Express.
Many of us have attempted to recreate that just-cleaned sensation in our own homes. Now, an expert hotel cleaner has revealed exactly how to achieve this, emphasising the importance of focusing on the right areas.
Lisa Williams, Executive Housekeeper at The Grand, York, insists there is one area you should 'always' clean first, as it's a hotbed for germ spread. If you're keen to reach that hotel standard of cleanliness in your own home, then it's worth prioritising what are known as the 'high touch' points before anything else.
Lisa explained: "The most important thing to remember when beginning a clean is to dust and sanitise all the high-touch points first. Things like door handles, light switches, taps and handrails can be easy to miss later on, but host bacteria due to regularly being touched."
Starting with these areas ensures you don't continue to spread any germs around the room during the rest of your reset and can make the biggest difference to a room looking and feeling clean.
Once you've tackled the high-touch points, you can then move on to low-touch point areas like mirrors, windowsills and light fittings, and follow up with hoovering or mopping the floor.
Lisa stated: "Cleaning a room in this order ensures that you are being as efficient as you can be."
Once your room is spick and span, you can add a few finishing touches to enhance its presentation, making it feel more like a posh hotel.
Lisa suggested putting yourself in the shoes of a guest - even if you're not expecting anyone - as it'll provide a fresh perspective and highlight any minor details that might have been overlooked, such as a dusty mirror or a lopsided cushion.
And for the final flourish, add a spritz of room fragrance to leave your home feeling wonderfully fresh for yourself or any potential guests.
