Canary Island holiday warning as visitors should avoid doing one thing

A TikTok creator has issued an urgent warning to anyone planning on travelling to a popular Canary Island this winter - and it's all to do with the price of taxis

Brits flocking to a popular destination for some winter sun have been hit with a stark warning from a travel guru.

George Buckley, a Tiktok creator, has dropped a crucial tip about getting around the island that could save holidaymakers a pretty penny. In his viral video, he strongly advises against one thing to cut down on costs.

He has told visitors to the popular Canary Island to avoid hopping into a taxi upon arrival. Instead, George champions the local buses as a wallet-friendly alternative.

He shared his own Tenerife experience in a candid clip, saying: "Don't get a taxi from the airport. Use the public buses.

"We used it to get from a 40 minute journey from the south terminal to get over to our airport, and it cost us €4." He went on to explain the payment options, adding: "You can pay by cash, or you can pay by their local little top up card, but it's easier to just pay by cash."

Waiting for his return trip, he pointed out: "We're currently waiting for our return one - it is the number 40. Taxis and Ubers will cost €50 - we checked.

"Obviously, you can split it but, if you actually want to save a good amount of money, take the local transport. It's definitely worthwhile and it's what we're doing again on the way back.

"It's very nice as well. It might be quite crowded, you might have to stand up, but it's worth it."

The footage has racked up thousands of views since being posted on Tiktok, sparking a lively debate among viewers. Many chimed in with their personal experiences of travelling around Tenerife, reports the Express.

One individual dropped this tip: "Good advice. Taxis are a rip off,"

Another recounted, "I went three weeks ago and stopped in Las Americas, wanted €55 for a taxi. Walked 10 minutes to the bus stop, and paid €3.70 for 20 minute direct bus to airport."

Not everyone felt the pinch though; someone else pointed out, "Buses are good, but it isn't €50 for a taxi to the airport. It's €30 to €35." Another voice added: "Literally paid €30 for a taxi a few days ago, and straight to the door of the hotel."
