The best pet treats for Christmas I'm shopping in advance as an owner to a spoiled pup
To avoid leaving your dogs out of the Christmas preparations, I’ve tracked down some of the best treats to shop for them and some come pre-approved by my own spoilt pup
Christmas isn’t just about spoiling your friends and family – it’s also about making sure your four legged friend gets plenty of treats too. And as the owner of one very spoiled pug who has strong opinions about being left out, I’m on a mission to make sure I’m fully prepared for the festive season.
Stockpiling some of her favourite treats – not to mention some new ones for her to try – is one way to make sure we’re both avoiding any last minute dashes to the shops at Christmas. And to help you with your own festive preparations, here are some of the best dog treats that are already available to shop, with some already taste test-approved by my dog, Penelope.

Ruffingtons Dog Doughnuts 4 pack - £9.17
We’re starting off strong with arguably one of Penelope’s favourite treats of all time. I got her some of Ruffington’s dog biscuits last year and they went down a storm, cementing them as a regular purchase in our household. Coming in a range of adorable human treat-inspired shapes like doughnuts, eclairs and cupcakes, they’re made with yoghurt, carob, and dog-friendly toppings.
Pooch & Mutt Pumpkin Spice Probiotic Meaty Treats – £3.99
Another one that was taste test-approved by Penelope last year, Pooch & Mutt’s pumpkin spice treats are back for another year. It wouldn’t be autumn without a PSL, and now your pup can join in on the fun with these meaty, grain-free treats. Containing nutrient rich pumpkin to support a healthy immune system and seasonal cinnamon with anti-inflammatory properties, they also have probiotics for healthy digestion and collagen for skin and coat.
Lily’s Kitchen Advent Calendar for Dogs - £10.50
Whilst we’re all opening our advent calendars each morning, there’s no reason for our four legged friends to miss out on the joy of the Christmas countdown either. Lily’s Kitchen’s advent calendar is filled with festive baked biscuits which are made from all natural ingredients, with Breaktime Biscuits made with peanut butter and banana, and Bedtime Biscuits created with a sprinkling of chamomile and passion flower.
Fortnum & Mason Venison Sticks Dog Treat - £8.95
A fancy treat from Fortnum & Mason is a great way to spoil yourself this Christmas, and now your pooch can enjoy one of their own, too. The venison sticks are made from RSPCA-assured wild venison, including locally sourced venison from the nearby Sandringham estate. They're full of meaty goodness and flavour, free from any undesirable additives and have been baked just the same as a human biscuit would be.
TopLife Cheese Bones for Dogs - £7.99
If you want a treat that’ll last a little longer, the TopLife cheese bones are the perfect long-lasting chew. Made from 100% natural ingredients, they’re high in protein and calcium to ensure strong bones and muscles, and are gluten-free, low in lactose and additive-free. You can pick them up in three different sizes to suit different size dogs, and once they become too small to chew, simply microwave it for 60 seconds (800W) until it puffs up into a crunchy treat, leaving no waste behind.
