UK supermarkets issue urgent recall for sausages that could cause health risk
Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said that the recall notice had been issued as the product contains an incredient which is not mentinoned on the label which could harm some consumers
Sausages are being pulled from supermarket shelves over fears they could trigger a severe allergic reaction in some people who eat them.
The Jolly Hog is urgently recalling its Leek Porkers sausages from Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Morrisons following an announcement by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The body said the product recall notice had been issued as the sausages contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.
According to the FSA this means the product is a “possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”
Symptoms of an allergy to milk vary but in severe cases exposure can lead to anaphylaxis, a serious, life-threatening allergic reaction that can cause blood pressure to drop, swelling in the throat and loss of consciousness in just minutes.
The product recall specifically applies to The Jolly Hog Leek Porkers 6 British Sausages range, weighing 400g and with a use by date of 28 September 2025.
The Jolly Hog stated: 'If you have bought the above product with the date affected and have a milk allergy, we advise you not to eat them.'
It added: 'Customers are asked to bring to their nearest store and a full refund will be issued for the product.
'We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.'
The FSA frequently issues recall health alerts, to let consumers know if people are at risk due to things like missing allergy information, contamination or other health risks.
Point-of-sale notices have also been put up letting customers know why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have bought the product.

Allergies to cow’s milk are the most common cause of allergic reactions in children UK-wide and even in small quantities can trigger a severe reaction in a sensitive individual.
The FSA reminded consumers that foods are often recalled or withdrawn when allergen information is missing, incorrect or misleading — even if the product itself is safe for most people.
