Family pay tribute to pensioner killed after being hit by council road sweeper
A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a 87-year-old man was killed by a road sweeper in Leicestershire this week
Tributes have been paid to a pensioner who died after being struck by a road sweeper.
Leicestershire Police officers were called to Holy Bones, outside the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, just before 2.15pm on Monday, October 13. The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics he could not be saved and he died in hospital a few hours later. The pedestrian killed by the council vehicle has now been formerly identified as 87-year-old Joginder Singh. A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has since been released under investigation.

Mr Singh was vice-president and a founding member of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, and since his death tributes have been pouring in.
In a tribute to Mr Singh, his family and members of the Gurdwara said: "He was a very humbled, devoted husband, father, grand and great grandfather and someone who made an amazing contribution to the Sikh community in Leicester.
"We are devastated by the loss and extremely shocked by what has happened. He was a great person and a devoted member of the gurdwara - someone who selflessly and tirelessly contributed to making a real difference. His death is being felt by so many people."
Jagjit Singh Kular, a committee member, told the BBC: "He's a very good friend of ours as well. He's a very intelligent person, and very humble, very polite, and he's a very educated person as well. So, we miss him, all the community misses him as well."
Leicestershire Police said it was was working with Leicester City Council to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. Detective Sergeant Mike Steer said: "We are working to understand exactly how the collision occurred following the sad news that the man died in hospital last night.
"The vehicle involved was a Leicester City Council road sweeper. We are in contact with colleagues in the council and they are assisting us with our investigation. Anyone who may have seen what happened is asked to call 101, quoting crime reference 25*602370."
