‘Trump’s dodgy Cabinet picks are packing more baggage than a transatlantic flight’

The Mirror's US editor Christopher Bucktin reports on the best of the most bizarre it-could-only-happen-in-the-USA stories in his The Buck Stops Here column. This week, Trump proves he can sink even further by choosing a Cabinet of men who are all facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct

NOT even three weeks since his win and already three of Donald Trump’s top Cabinet picks are facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct.

First, his pick for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, is accused of being “extra-friendly” with a 17-year-old and paying two women for their time.

Next, defence secretary nominee Pete Hegseth admits to paying off a woman who sued him over sexual assault — though he denies the accusation.

Finally, health and human services nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is accused of groping a former babysitter. As Republican senators weigh up such stellar résumés, they’ll have to decide which red flag to ignore first — because this Cabinet is packing more baggage than a transatlantic flight.

Cruise passengers got more adventure than they bargained for when strong winds rocked the Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas, causing it to tilt sharply – right as Celine Dion’s Titanic

The 15-deck ship, packed with 4,300 passengers, was on a transatlantic trip from Barcelona to Miami. Still, for a moment, it seemed they were heading straight for an Oscar-worthy disaster scene. Luckily, they just needed a firm grip and a good sense of humour to ride it out.

Pizza Hut’s latest foray into wine might test even the most adventurous palate. Introducing Tomato Wine, a limited-edition creation that the chain claims “captures the essence of Pizza Hut’s signature flavours in every sip”.

That’s right: the red isn’t made from grapes but from tomatoes, with a hint of basil. Teaming up with Kansas-based Just Beyond Paradise Winery, Pizza Hut invites fans to sip their marinara-er wine and blur the line between drink and dinner.

A South Carolina teacher is accusing a 10-year-old student of sexual harassment. The child has been placed on a “no-hug policy” after the Lancaster County educator’s complaint alleges the child put his head on her chest while hugging her and pressed his body against hers.

The boy’s mother said she was unaware of the problem and didn’t understand how the situation escalated to the point of a formal complaint. She calls her son a “very loving child”.

A banana duct-taped to a wall has just peeled $6.2million (£4.9m) from a buyer’s wallet at a New York auction. The “art piece”, known as Comedian, went viral after Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan first slapped it on a wall at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019.

Festivalgoers couldn’t tell if this lone banana stuck with silver tape was a prank or a jab at the art world’s taste for the bizarre.

Sotheby’s says Cattelan’s flashy announcement of a “new original work” sparked a global buzz, as Comedian drew record crowds and left people divided over whether they should laugh or reach for their wallets.
