Time Magazine lays immigrant family separation crisis at the feet of Donald Trump with powerful front cover

The new edition of TIME magazine takes a swipe at Trump and his unpopular immigration policy that has torn families apart at the US-Mexico border

Time magazine's scathing new cover has laid the blame for the recent US-Mexico border immigration crisis firmly at the feet of Donald Trump - literally.

The hard-hitting front cover shows a young child screaming for her mother as the US president looks on dispassionately at her plight.

The accompanying text simply reads: "Welcome to America".

The stark, minimalist design has generated massive amount of publicity for the New York-based weekly and has been shared widely across social media.

The picture of two-year old Honduran girl Yanela has become a defining image in the recent family separation crisis that has seen nearly 2,000 immigrant children taken from their parents.

Social media users are divided over the magazine's controversial message, with pro-Trump supporters furiously condemning the cover as 'biased.'

"Shame on you TIME for the propaganda! Did you mention how many kids were separated under Clinton and Obama?", one wrote.

Another said: "Shame on you time magazine for exploiting the little child. Did you pay her or her parents for the usage of her picture???"

"Don't drag your children hundreds if miles and cross USA borders illegally! That is child abuse these kids probably need to be separated from such monsters", another added.

Unsurprisingly, critics of Trump's controversial "zero-tolerance" immigration policy have strongly backed the new cover.

One anti-Trump user wrote : "Time................got it wrong. They should have had him looking the other way. He does not see them. He does not hear them."

Another wrote: "I’m sitting on the tube, going home, long day. I’ve just seen this and I literally thought I was going to be sick. Gag reflex and tears in eyes. It’s inhumane, true evil, a monster."

The latest edition will include an article by journalist Karl Vick, titled "What kind of country are we?"

Vick writes : "For many Americans, the forced separation of immigrant families left them looking into the void from which the brutal policy emerged: the dark space left by the words Trump does say."

The cover comes as Melania Trump was blasted for wearing a $39 Parka jacket emblazoned with the words "I really don't care, do you?" as she flew to to a detention centre in Texas to meet some of the separated children.

Melania's spokesperson later confirmed she had worn the jacket in error: "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message.

However, Donald Trump was quick to claim on Twitter that: "Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!"
