A drink-driver who fled from police dressed as Batman after crashing into a telegraph pole has been banned from driving.

The 25-year-old Army recruit from Aliwal Barracks, crashed his car into a telegraph pole while drink driving. After crashing his car, Lewis Blondrage then fled the scene, attempting to evade residents who took it upon themselves to chase him down.

Lewis, who was wearing a Batman fancy dress costume, was eventually captured by police where he was given a breath and blood test which found him over the limit. Finding the runaway driver took a number of police teams, including the use of police dogs, according to Wiltshire Police.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "A man who fled police after crashing while drink-driving has been disqualified for a year. Lewis Blondrage, of Aliwal Barracks, collided with a telegraph pole in Meerut Road, Tidworth, on November 19. Dressed as Batman, Blondrage fled the scene and he was chased by local residents into the darkness.

"Several policing teams, including the dog unit, contained the area and captured Blondrage. He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to custody where he provided a blood sample which was over the legal limit.

"Blondrage was found guilty of drink-driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. The bench handed him a 12-month driving disqualification and a £600 fine."
