King Charles's classmates spied on him after hearing his nighttime 'problem'Mirror

King Charles III was the victim of a cruel prank by his fellow pupils at Gordonstoun School in Scotland after they used a "recording device" to capture his embarrassing nighttime habit

King Charles was the butt of a cruel prank by his schoolmates who used a sneaky "device" to record his embarrassing nighttime "problem", according to Royal biographer Ingrid Seward.

Speaking at a London literary event, the Majesty magazine editor-in-chief recounted how a young Charles fell victim to a mischievous trick during his time at Gordonstoun School in Scotland.

The lads rigged up a contraption to eavesdrop on Charles's nocturnal habit, with columnist Ephraim Hardcastle suggesting the King might still be plagued by the issue, as reported by the Mail.

Seward revealed: "Charles's bed was by an open window, so the boys above dangled over the window a recording device and recorded him snoring away. Charles had a terrible problem with his snoring - and I think he still does."

Starting in 1962, Charles spent five years at the independent boarding school, which his father, Prince Philip, had attended and enjoyed. However, Charles was less than impressed, nicknaming it "Colditz in kilts" due to its strict regime, reports the Express.

During his stay at Windmill Lodge, now a girls' dormitory, Charles penned letters expressing his disdain for the place and his dorm mates.

He lamented in one letter: "It's such hell here, especially at night. I don't get any sleep practically at all nowadays. The people in my dormitory are foul. Goodness, they are horrid, I don't know how anyone could be so foul."

Despite his challenging time, Charles later reflected that the school had taught him "a great deal about myself and my own abilities and disabilities". He also mentioned in 1975 that the "toughness of the place" was "much exaggerated".

Neither Prince William nor Prince Harry followed in their father's footsteps to Gordonstoun, instead opting for Eton College. The prestigious Berkshire school has seen many famous faces walk its halls, including David Cameron, Boris Johnson and even George Orwell.

Charles could have attended Eton, but Prince Philip believed that the future king would lose his privacy due to its proximity to Windsor and London.

In a revelation earlier this year, it emerged that Charles was often teased for one of his more peculiar habits - encouraging the trees he'd planted to grow.

In The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, author Robert Hardman delves into the monarch's close relationship with nature.

"He does love being out and about in the countryside," Hardman shared with Fox News Digital. "He's always disappearing, and he's got a particular thing at the moment with planting trees."

"He's obsessed with it. He's always liked planting trees. He used to get mocked for it slightly because whenever he planted a tree, he'd always shake one of the leaves by the hand and say, 'Good luck tree.'".

It seems this unique habit has persisted even after his coronation. In fact, according to Hardman, Charles's passion for tree planting has only intensified.
