Schoolboy genius gets same Mensa IQ score as Albert Einstein aged just 12

Humble Cyrus Leung, who attends school in Sheffield, has been accepted into the exclusive Mensa society after achieving an impressive 160, two marks off the top score

A 12-year-old genius has joined Mensa after getting the same IQ score as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

Cyrus Leung has been accepted into the exclusive society after achieving 160, two marks off the top score. Mensa is an international group for high-IQ individuals that was founded in 1947. It only accepts members who are above the 98th percentile of IQs worldwide.

Cyrus’s father, Frank Leung, said his brainy son knew his times tables at the age of three. He added: “We are really proud of what he has achieved, but this is just the beginning of his journey. I look forward to helping him achieve his potential.” Humble Cyrus said: “I am very proud of myself.”

The year seven student at Birkdale School, Sheffield, moved from Hong Kong in 2019. He is a talented pianist and wants to become a mathematician or scientist.

Proud dad Frank, 42, an IT manager, put him forward for the test as he thought it would help his son find some friends with similar interests.

The married dad of two said: “I thought it would be good for Cyrus’s development. He arrived to the exam centre and realised he forgot his watch – he was nervous that he wouldn’t know how much time he’s got left. But he was really, really excited as he didn’t expect to get such a high score. He is really proud of himself and I think this is something he will remember for the rest of his lifetime.”

Frank added: “When he was very small we knew he was good with numbers. I’m really proud of him – it’s not easy for him to do it when he’s so young.”
