Vet shares one thing you should never do when trying to put cat into carrier
If you struggle to get your cat into a pet carrier, you may wish to heed the advice of vet, Amir Anwary who says he has a 'super easy' method that 'works every time'
One of the biggest challenges of cat ownership can be the struggle to get your feline friend into a pet carrier when the need to transport them arises. A vet, however, has shared the most effective way of combating the problem, claiming you may be performing your existing technique all wrong.
"Cat owners always complain about getting their cats into the cat carrier and this is a sure method to get them in," Amir Anwary explained in a TikTok video. "Do it quickly and confidently and you won’t have any problem getting them to the vet clinic." So what is the key to success?
Amir advised that the first mistake many people make is trying to force their cat head-first into the carrier. "Cats hate being forced into dark spaces," he said.
Instead, you should hold your cat in your arms and make them feel comfortable. "Then, take your hands and cup their hind legs and then push their head and their back legs into the carrier," Amir added.
The vet explained that this method is "super easy" as there is hardly anything for the cat to grab onto.
"Once they're in the carrier if they try to claw their way out there's not a lot they can do because they are already in," Amir closed. "It's super easy and it works every time.
"Do it quickly and confidently and you won’t have any problem."
Writing in response, cat owners shared their techniques including one TikTok user who wrote: "I think the most easiest way (for me and my cat at least) is to put the carrier the night before or in the morning in the living room.
"She goes in herself. It's like she doesn't see it as a 'threat'. Then she gets a little treat."
Similarly, a second person added: "If I put a carrier in my house there's about three seconds before it becomes occupied by a curious cat. I leave one out every now and then so they don't always think it means vet visit."
A third wrote: "We have cat carriers around the house 24/7 and our cats feel so comfortable they sleep in them.
"The biggest mistake I've encountered as an RVN is the cat carrier being stored in the shed/garage and only coming out when the cats are going somewhere like the vets or the cattery so they become something to be feared. have one around all the time and half the battle is won."
Whilst a fourth TikTok user penned: "I left our carrier out when we first got it and threw in a handful of treats.
"They started using it as a bed and now it’s not associated with the vet. Now it’s super easy to get them in."
