'I cry once a week over my baby's name - I want to change it but it's too late'
A mum has taken to social media to ask users whether it's 'too late' to change her baby girl's name, admitting she cries about it every single week
A mum who 'cries once a week' over her daughter's name is considering changing it - but is worried how her family will react. She explained how she agreed to name her baby girl Brielle after a "pretty traumatic birth", despite being unsure about the moniker at the time.
She thought she'd learn to love the name but 18 months on, and she still cries about it weekly. Taking to Reddit, she said: "I have literally cried once a week over my daughter's name, Brielle, since she was born. I don't think it suits her at all. It was a huge step away from my style, which is more traditional and classic. When people call her 'Bri' I cringe."
"Long story short, we had a pretty traumatic birth experience and my husband was unfortunately not a great listener in the hospital when I voiced my hesitation of the name upon meeting her. I have regretted it ever since. We fight about this weekly and it's gotten to the fork in the road."

Wanting to know whether it's "too late" to change her daughter's name, she added: "I have spoken to multiple friends and family about this and feel selfish and lost. Now that she's 18 months old, is it too late? My idea is to legally change her name to where her middle name is Brielle, call her _______ -Brielle until hopefully Brielle just drops off."
"Facing the questions from friends and family is definitely scary, but it's time to make a decision and move on." Fellow users offered their thoughts in the comments: "Personally, I think 18 months is too old to be changing her name. But that's just me. I'd try out some nicknames like Elle or Ellie or even use her middle name." suggested one. Another chimed in: "Does she know her name is Brielle? Does she respond to it? Do you like the nickname of Elle, Ellie, or Ella?"
A third user voiced: "It's entirely up to you, but might be awkward if she already responds to Brielle. I think it's a pretty name personally, but my opinion, or anyone else's, doesn't really matter. Tell people to call her Brielle and not shorten it if you don't like Bri..I also hate it when people shorten names without asking." A separate one ended with: "She's not a puppy who's being rehomed. She's a person who identifies with a name. Try Elle, Ellie or Bee."
