Notorious drug lord El Chapo's ex-jailbird wife 'to make major fashion move' at Milan Fashion Week
El Chapo's wife Emma Coronel Aispuro posed in a lavish gown alongside LA designer April Black Diamond in a series of Instagram posts hinting at a new career in fashion
The wife of infamous cartel boss El Chapo is set to hit the runway as a model at Milan Fashion Week.
Emma Coronel Aispuro appears to have been selected to model for luxury gown designer April Black Diamond for the red carpet event later this month. The 35-year-old former jailbird served three years behind bars for her part in facilitating Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman's escape from a Mexican jail before being released last year.
She initially made attempts to enter the music industry after her release. But now, a series of Instagram posts from the LA fashion label indicates another career move, featuring Aispuro as a model. In one of the images, she poses with the eponymous designer in a lavish gown, dripping with jewels.
"We are happy to welcome Emma Coronel to international fashion designer April Black Diamond," the post is captioned. "This rising star is redefining elegance with bold style, timeless beauty and fierce confidence.
"Get ready to witness your incredible journey as you take over the fashion world. From the walkway to the streets, Emma Coronel is the embodiment of the iconic Milan Fashion Week."
Another shows Aispuro in a stylish black and white image with the caption: "Emmacoronel9official MILAN FASHION WEEK NEW COLLECTION APRIL BLACK DIAMOND." The post was shared by Aispuro herself, who added celebratory emojis, underlining her enthusiasm for the event.
She added the word 'Milan' followed by several emojis with hearts and a heart formed by hands. Mariel Colon, the glamorous lawyer who defended both her and El Chapo in their US trials, also seems to be joining the fashion house, reports Brazilian media.
It has not yet been confirmed whether Aispuro and her lawyer will join professional supermodels on the Milan runway or will simply feature in online campaigns for the show. Since her release from jail US-born beauty queen Aispuro's ability to travel internationally has been heavily restricted by her parole conditions.
But one image sees her pointing at the date, September 21, when Milan's catwalk shows are in full flight. April Black Diamond has become one of the fastest-growing elite brands in fashion with photoshoots in Vogue, Forbes and other fashion magazines.
Emma Coronel has been in legal trouble for her links with the narco, specifically because of her relations with the Sinaloa Cartel, of which her husband El Chapo Guzman was leader. She was released in September 2023 after serving just under three years in prison in the United States for her role in her Sinaloa Cartel boss's husband's jailbreak.
